Commonwealth War Graves Memorial Competition Entry 2022

In remembrance of the approximately 2 500 South Africans who lost their lives during WWI (1914-1918), whom offered their labour and ultimately their lives. The desired outcome for this monument is to present the opportunity to commemorate and show respect for their efforts in a dignified manner. Further to this, it presents a long overdue opportunity to bring a lacunae of WWI history forward while reactivating and responding to notions of palimpsest in our context and elsewhere by addressing previously denied human agency.
