House Brynard (Kleinmond)
House Brynard 2024
Located on the spectacular ocean front of Kleinmond lower Beach Road, this additions and alterations project to an old beach house is an inspiring project. Even though the original house is washed with a cosy atmosphere and loads of character of bygone days, the new owners’ mandate was to enlarge the original structure and allow for a generous amount of light to unveil the expansive views. Taking into consideration the client’s outdoor lifestyle, a sensitive approach is being taken in choosing form and materials. The ocean and mountain views in combination with the original plan are the generators for the new spaces and forms. By making use of clean lines and creating open seamless interiors, the infinite ocean views are connected with majestic northern mountain views. The overall mass is kept simple and uncluttered to create a calm, quiet building which rests comfortably in its old familiar footprint. The materials are honest in application and in combination with natural light and respect for views, the building bridges the past with the present.
Solar energy, rainwater harvesting, natural sustainable materials, new fynbos landscaping, recycling and re-use of existing structures and materials interact to create a new structure which imprints tactfully on this environmentally sensitive coastal site.
