House Joubert (Hermanus)
House Joubert 2022
This solid 1950’s house in the established area of Eastcliff Hermanus has absorbed a number of additions and alterations over the years. A west wing lounge and new entrance portico in 1965, new bedroom and bathroom on the north-east side as well as an outbuilding in 1974 and a single garage on the south-east corner during 1987.
With new ownership in 2022, a fifth layer is added to accommodate contemporary lifestyle needs. In brief, this entails opening up internal spaces for improved functionality, better indoor/ outdoor flow and connectivity with the garden as well as allowing more natural light into the building. A first floor is added to create two new bedroom suites as well as a lounge area.
Some character of the existing house will be retained such as Oregon pine floors (where practical) as well as exterior plinth walls and plaster detail.
