House Slabbert (Pringle Bay)

House Slabbert 2022

The brief for this extensive additions and alterations project called for a double garage, two more bedrooms with bathroom as well as an entertainment area and conservancy. A further requirement was to address certain functional aspects in the existing house which was not well considered during the two layers of additions in the past. These included resolving circulation issues, awkward entrance area and indoor/ outdoor interface as well as re-design of staircase.

The architectural response resulted in a landscaped approach with stepped planted concrete roofs. In order to ensure sea views, connectivity with the Fynbos context and Hangklip mountain, a complete break from the existing language of the pitched roof double storey building was necessary, while simultaneously reducing the visual impact.
